Over the past 30 days I’ve been monitoring social media across Twitter, Facebook and Google in order to see which games are seeing the most buzz at the moment. I’ve been compiling all this data together and have now come to a conclusion that Fallout 4 is this holidays most anticipated console game among core gamers in North America and Europe. After analysing more than 1 million data points we can see that Fallout 4 has a comfortable lead over Star Wars Battlefront which is the second most anticipated game followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Halo 5: Guardians.
The table below uses a points system based on Fallout 4 being the most anticipated game, therefore it has been awarded 100 points with the other games awarded a number of points in relation to how anticipated it is compared to Fallout 4. As can be seen the 4 games mentioned above are clearly the leaders with each game easily scoring over 75 points whilst all other games fail to achieve more than 50 points. Halo 5: Guardians is the most anticipated Xbox One exclusive at number 4 with 79 points whilst the most anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive is Bloodborne: The Old Hunters with 44 points. We believe that the huge difference is due to Halo being a well established franchise whilst this year the biggest PlayStation 4 exclusive for the holiday season is an expansion pack for an already released title.
Rise of the Tomb Raider, another Xbox One exclusive title makes it in the list at number 8 with 31 points, the same as Wii U exclusive Xenoblade Chronicles X which comes in at number 9 with 31 points as well. The majority of games on the list are multi-platform releases as is to be expected. We believe that the top 4 games will account for more than cumulative 60 million sales with Call of Duty: Black Ops III being the leader with almost half of those sales. Whilst Call of Duty is expected to sell the most it did not see the top spot in this study as the game has a huge appeal to casual and semi casual gamers where as this study looked at what the core gamer was most looking forward to.
You can see the full top 10 below as well as an explanation of how the results were calculated.

The aim of this study was to calculate the top 10 most anticipated home console games among core gamers for this holiday. In order to work this out we used more than 1 million data points across Twitter, Facebook and Google to work out which games were being discussed among gamers. We also sent out our own survey to core gamers which asked them to let us know which AAA games they would be buying this holiday.
By combining the data points we were able to work out that Fallout 4 was the most anticipated title across the core gaming community in North America and Europe so we gave the game 100 points as the most anticipated game of the holiday. The values given to other game titles represent how anticipated the game is in comparison to Fallout 4 (100). For example, Star Wars Battlefront has 86 points so is also a very much anticipated game where as Need for Speed only has 28 points and therefore is not as anticipated as Fallout 4.
All data was collected between September 27th through to the 18th of October 2015.
